ENEA – Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and the Environment –
is a public research institution operating in the fields of energy, environment and new
technologies to support competitiveness and sustainable development. The staff is
more than 3000 persons out of which about 2000 are researchers and engineers
involved in R&D activities.
Since 1998 ENEA is strongly involved in national (TRASCO I and II founded by the
Italian Ministry of the University, Scientific and Technological Research) and
European research programmes (TECLA, MEGAPIE TEST, PDS-ADS) aiming to study
the physics and to develop the HLMs technologies needed to design an Accelerator
Driven system for nuclear waste transmutation. ENEA has well-recognized
competences in R&D ADS-related activities and in design, construction and operation
of HLM, in addition to experimental facilities for ADS-based technologies, such as
CIRCE, LECOR, CHEOPE.
