Le Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique (CEA) is one of the biggest science and
engineering research institutions in Europe. The CEA is organized in four research
and development sectors: nuclear energy, technological research, fundamental
research and defence.
The Nuclear Energy programmess are devoted to the support of nuclear power
stations in operation (reactors and fuels), the design of systems of the future (reactors
and fuels), the waste management, the simulation and experimental tools (hot
laboratories, research reactors, etc…) and the clean up and dismantling of obsolete
installations.
CEA is the steering institution for implementing research program about Partitioning
and Transmutation, in the framework of the French 1991 Waste Management Act.
CEA is also currently the Co-coordinator of the European FP6 EUROPART Integrated
project for Partitioning.
CEA has recognized and long scientific and technological experience in the field of
transmutation (nuclear data, neutronics, systems, materials, fuels) and operates
important nuclear facilities (Atalante and LECA-STAR hot laboratories, and Phénix and
MASURCA experimental reactors) in support of this expertise.
