SYSTEM AND COMPONENT DEVELOPMENT

Strong efforts are dedicated to systems and components development: single pin experiments, fuel bundle experiments, integral tests, pump development studies, ISI&R system development activities are performed in the different R&D programmes.

A single pin experiment is foreseen aimed to test the heat transfer conditions across a real cladding to the outer cooling channel of flowing LBE at a prototypical condition for the ETD.

A fuel rod bundle experiment is carried out in KALLA Facility at FZK on rod bundle with a linear power capability of up to 300 W/cm with ETD representative height and power axial distribution.

An unique experiment aimed at realizing an HLM pool type system representative of the thermal-hydraulic behaviour of the primary system of the EDT under development is ongoing in ENEA.
The realized system will be used for performing thermal-hydraulic studies, component development and testing, qualification of the heat transfer and fluid dynamics models, simulating operational and accidental transients

Several experiments are going on related to ISI&R systems. Particular attention is paid to non-destructive control, telemetry and visualisation, identification of US velocity in LBE in various operating conditions.
